Root canal treatment
Endodontics is root canal treatment — often the last opportunity to save a natural tooth and keep it functional for many years. At SVEDENT Dental Clinic in Sofia we work with magnification and modern endodontic techniques to clean, disinfect and seal the canals with precision.
When is a root canal needed?
Root canal treatment is usually recommended in cases of:
- deep decay with inflammation of the nerve (pulpitis)
- pain when chewing, or sensitivity to hot and cold
- a granuloma or infection at the root tip
- retreatment of an old or incomplete root canal filling
Why the microscope matters
Root canals are small, complex and anatomically different in every tooth. Working under magnification lets us see more, treat more conservatively and seal the canals more accurately — which is what determines how long the tooth will last.
We explain each step calmly as we go. Root canal treatment is not something to fear — it is a careful way to preserve your natural tooth.
Frequently asked questions
Does a root canal hurt?
No — the treatment is done under local anaesthesia and in most cases it relieves the pain you came in with. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal.
How many visits does root canal treatment take?
Usually one to two visits, depending on the tooth's anatomy and whether there is an active infection that needs time to settle before the final filling.
Isn't it simpler to just remove the tooth?
Keeping your natural tooth is almost always better for your bite, the neighbouring teeth and the bone. Extraction and implant replacement is considered only when a tooth genuinely cannot be saved.
What happens after the root canal?
The tooth is restored — often with an onlay or a crown — to protect it from fracture. We plan the restoration together with the endodontic treatment.
