Oral surgery
Surgical treatment often sounds worrying — but when it is well planned and clearly explained, it can be calm and controlled. At SVEDENT in Sofia we always try to save the tooth first; when surgery is genuinely needed, we work carefully, minimally invasively and under strict aseptic protocols.
When is oral surgery needed?
The most common reasons for a surgical procedure are:
- extraction of a severely damaged or fractured tooth
- roots that can no longer be restored
- impacted or problematic wisdom teeth
- preparation for implant or prosthetic treatment
Aftercare that keeps recovery predictable
After the procedure you receive specific instructions for recovery, eating, hygiene and the follow-up visit. Our aim is to reduce fear, explain clearly and make the whole process as comfortable and predictable as possible.
Frequently asked questions
Is wisdom tooth removal painful?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure but not pain. Swelling and discomfort for a few days afterwards are normal and manageable with the aftercare instructions we give you.
How long does recovery take?
For most extractions, 2–7 days. Impacted wisdom teeth can take a little longer. You get clear guidance on eating, hygiene and activity for each day of recovery.
When is extraction the right decision?
Only when a tooth genuinely cannot be saved — we always assess restorative and endodontic options first. If extraction is needed, we plan what replaces the tooth before we remove it.
Can an implant be placed after the extraction?
Yes. When conditions allow, extraction and implant planning are coordinated — sometimes with immediate placement — so the site heals in the best way for the future implant.
